Casey was shot and mortally wounded, while Cora was also hit but survived initially. However, Cora was later arrested, tried, and found guilty of murder. On May 22, 1856, Charles Cora was hanged by the vigilante committee, marking the end of one of the most notorious incidents in San Francisco's history during the turbulent Gold Rush era.
