KC-135R "Air to Air Refueling" The KC-135R Stratotanker is a long-range tanker transport. It originally was designed for “Air to Air Refueling”. It can carry passengers, freight, and fuel for air-to-air refueling. This KC-135 is refueling the U. S. Air Force's newest air superiority fighter, F-22A Raptor and is from the 6th Air Mobility Wing MacDill AFB, Florida. The KC-135 Stratotanker provides the core aerial refueling capability for the United States Air Force and has excelled in this role for more than 50 years. This unique asset enhances the Air Force's capability to accomplish its primary missions of Global Reach and Global Power. It also provides aerial refueling support to Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps and allied nation aircraft. The KC-135 is also capable of transporting litter and ambulatory patients using patient support pallets during aero-medical evacuations. Air Mobility Command manages an inventory of more than 481 Stratotankers, of which the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard fly 294 in support of AMC's mission.
