Currier & Ives Book Plate reproduced from the original artwork for inclusion in the book that this was taken from. Book Plates are not the originals, rather reproductions made for insertion in a book - usuallysmaller in size to fit the size of the book. These book plates are from a book old enough to be considered Vintage, but they are by no means antique. Either way, they are high quality, colorful, and nicely made plates. Book plates are full page illustrations, pictures, or photographs that are printed separately from the text of the book, but they are bound in during production. Plates add color, texture, and value to books, and they are often gorgeous and riveting.For certain titles, plates are only included in first editions or deluxe editions, and they can often spread over entire sheets of paper. Book plates will also often be in the front of the book, and serve as a way of indicating ownership. Entire books can be mostly book plates as well, to compile the history and works of the artist(s). Framing book plates can be a good alternative for many people, as the original size prints or artwork can be very large. Most peopledon't live in a museum and have little wall space for giant pictures.Note: Most of the Currier & Ives bookplates that I have listedare cropped in the photo editor and so the full border is not visible that surrounds the picture. They are not uneven as it appears - just cropped unevenly.
