"A WOMAN AND CHILD" ORIGINAL AUTO-LITHOGRAPH BY MAURICE GREIFFENHAGEN (1862-1931), SIGNED IN THE STONE (top right) Published as a Special Supplement in "The Studio" 1897. Has the all-important Studio blindstamp bottom left corner. Total sheet measures 11 x 8 inches. Condition/Technical : Very good - a few foxing spots to reverse, but not really relevant - they don't show through. A good, strong evenly inked impression, attractively printed in sanguine on off-white wove art paper. "The Studio" Magazine was a lavishly-produced and pre-eminent art journal. It took lithography to an entirely new level of excellence. In its early years the editors commissioned graphic works from leading artists, but as the popularity of the journal increased, artists were keen to offer their works for inclusion. in such a superb showcase publication. Continental artists, and "rising stars" from UK were also well represented. We can count such luminaries as Beardsley, Whistler, Waterhouse, Khnopff, LePere, Nicholson etc. etc. just to name a few amongst the contributors. The print run was about 3,000.
