Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 1868 Owen Jones The Grammar of Ornament The Grammar of Ornament by Owen Jones (1809-74), is a seminal work in the history of decorative art. It could be considered one of the first multicultural design collections, incorporating concepts from many countries and centuries. It was definitely an important precursor to our global economy, with textiles and paper now produced all over the world. Many of the designs first presented in The Grammar are more familiar to us than the original subscribers, a tribute not only to its tremendous influence but the globalization of trade. It was both the revolutionary presentation of world wide decorative arts at a time when very few saw beyond their own borders & a synthesis of design up to the Victorian era. Each print measures approximately 13 1/4 inches wide by 9 inches long on strong paper with minor marginal toning. The colors are very fresh and vibrant, with gold and silver on some which does not show well in the scans and the designs represent patterns from all over the world. About Antique Prints We try to select antique prints in the best possible condition, with as few defects as possible. Nevertheless, these prints are often hundreds of years old and show the effects of time, as noted below 1. Most common is paper darkening, or toning, resulting in the paper becoming shades darker, from off white to light brown. We rarely offer very toned prints, unless the issue is particularly scarce. 2. Text offset occurs over time, when the text page is against the image and ink from the text makes lines on the image. Conversely, image offset occurs when the hand coloring transfers slightly to the text. Again, we rarely offer heavily offset prints. 3. Spotted or foxing is also common due to age and handling over a long period of time and while a small degree of foxing is common and acceptable, we avoid extensively foxed prints. SHIPPINGShipping is first class and we pack the prints flat and well protected in foam core, unless they are large, when we very carefully roll them with several protective layers. They roll out flat very quickly. PAYMENTWe are delighted to combine shipments to save on postage. If you wish to combine, please wait to pay until your last purchase up to 4 days.
