Coby Katz 1 of 1 Rare Art 2020 Born in 1998 in New York, self-taught contemporary artist Coby Katz is known for his intricately designed paintings. From the day Katz took his first step, he embarked on a journey to leave his foot print on the world. The emerging artist’s work was initially influenced by Old Masters such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso, and M.C. Escher. Coby understood that to create the future, one must study the past. He immersed him-self in studies regarding initial techniques, motivations, and inspirations. Mastering and building on these methods, Coby developed his own unique style, exploring themes of human influence, love, and physicality. Fascinated by architecture and the process of creating a blueprint from start to finish, Coby utilizes symbolic gurus and innovative ways to create. He seeks to share a unique story with each of his elaborate paintings. His newest series “Step by Step” portrays portraits of iconic gurus created using stairs, steps, spirals, l adders, levels, illusions, and patterns. The pieces can be viewed from numerous perspectives. As Katz puts it, “There are many different ways of getting where you want to go. The most important part of the process is that you take the right step, even if the whole staircase isn’t immediately visible.” By allowing the orientation of the viewer to shift depending on which viewpoint is followed, the scenes are open to a continuous cycle of interpretation.
